NBA star Dwight Howard and the Los Angeles Lakers have continued their long-running partnership with Xbox by unveiling their new Dream Space project.
Howard recently remodeled the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley, which will serve as the home for the innovative new undertaking.
The Dream Space is a state-of-the-art 20-student gaming lab – complete with all the bells and whistles, including new artwork, custom purple and gold Xbox Series S consoles, gaming PCs, screens and more.
Kids will be encouraged to explore their gaming passions in the Dream Space. The project is part of Howard’s vision to promote a life of purpose and community.
“I am partnering with Xbox and the Lakers to produce this game lab just to give these kids a chance to dream and think big. I know how much the Lakers mean to me but also Xbox,” Howard said in a statement. “I’ve been playing the game for a lot of years now. It’s just kind of opened up my eyes to different games, but also it’s inspired me to want to continue to play this sport that I love and play here in LA. So, I’m very thankful to be partnering with two great companies who’ve been around for a very long time and they’re kind of the champions in their own field.”
The SFV Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to promoting the educational, social, and character development of boys and girls six to seventeen years of age in San Fernando Valley—predominantly from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Howard also hosted a private meet-and-greet for the youths, where he put his gaming skills to the test.
“Sports and gaming give kids a chance to dream and they want to be something in life. And when they’re playing these games and they see these players who grew up in similar situations, they’re like, ‘Man, you know, maybe I could be a Lebron James or Carmelo Anthony or Russell Westbrook,'” he said.
